Fenham Hall Studios have welcomed two new tenants who wanted more from their working environment. While looking for office space in Newcastle capable of accommodating Covid health precautions they also wanted dedicated parking, a tranquil environment and good local services while being close to Newcastle City Centre.

The Bishop Bewick Catholic Education Trust were looking for an administrative headquarters to accommodate their growth to include a further 36 schools in a self-contained office space and Child Psychiatry UK were looking for a professional working space as a base from which to run their practice.

Both new tenants commenced operations from Fenham Hall Studios in January 2021.

For the Bishop Bewick Trust the move provided socially distanced offices within the original refectory from the St Mary’s teacher training College which had recently been refurbished into Studio J which offers spacious offices with big sash windows offering views of the historic gardens and plenty of opening windows for fresh air.

David Douglass, Chief Operating Officer of the Bishop Bewick Trust said “ We have grown from a partnership of three schools to include 33 new schools and needed an administrative centre to house the admin team. We needed space to accommodate adequate social distancing with plenty of fresh air plus we needed a space which was self-contained with our own WC and staff facilities. It was an added bonus that Studio J at Fenham Hall Studios was the original refectory when the building was owned by Sacred Heart”.

Child Psychiatry UK took over Studio F in October 2020 and began their psychiatry practice in Studio F, a fully self-contained unit, in January 2021.

Dr Stephen Westgarth, Medical Director of Child Psychiatry UK, said: “I have been looking for a professional working space to run my practice for a while and when I saw Studio F I knew it would be a perfect location.

“It’s vital that we are able to provide a calm and welcoming space for young people and their families, so they feel at ease and relaxed when they visit the practice. The light airy feel and the versatile configuration of the office space was ideal, and we’ve been able to create a professional yet relaxed atmosphere that puts people at ease when they arrive.

“We have had fantastic feedback from the families we see who often comment on the pleasant environment and welcoming space.

“When we arrived at Fenham Hall Studios for the first time, we were struck by the quiet setting, the greenery, the established trees and the birdsong, yet it has all the benefits of being close to good transport links, making it easy for people to access from all sides of the city and beyond. It’s exceeded our expectations and we’re delighted to be here.”

Fenham Hall was built in 1745 for John Ord an early Mayor of Newcastle and is an important part of the History of Newcastle upon Tyne. The Hall and ancillary buildings are Grade 2 star listed and underwent substantial refurbishment and restoration by the architect Peter Lambert whose practice bought the buildings now forming Fenham Hall Studios in 1994.

The practice occupied the original Art room of the Teacher Training College before developing further offices on part of the site and grounds immediately next to the Hall, which became Fenham Hall Studios.

The original Art Room – Studios A and C were the offices for the architect’s practice and these are now available to let offering some 2,500 sq ft of self-contained contemporary office space on two floors overlooking the Historic grounds. The offices have their own WCs, kitchen, showers, bicycle storage, and 8 dedicated parking spaces.
